8220;I wrote my mother asking if the scenes I recalled from stories handed down to me were accurate, because they seemed so unique or unusually romantic. She answered, assuring me that everything I mentioned was true, there are maybe fifteen actual scenes from their lives. In the story, I make Charlie a hero. The answer was a murder mystery. It seemed to be a good exercise to simply improve my writing, I had no intention or exp.

When I moved to the high desert 30 years ago, I was told about a place called the Japanese Camp. It was hidden in the hills of the San Bernardino Mountains between Victorville and the Town of Yucca Valley. Nestled in the eastern foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains just north of Yucca Valley there is a small group of old stone and wooden structures.
